Tarkett’s Carbon Calculator breaks new ground by bringing end-of-life closed-loop recycling into the equation - an industry first

Tarkett has launched a new thorough yet easy-to-use Carbon Calculator to offer customers, across all sectors, full transparency on the carbon footprint of Tarkett’s flooring collections, to help them make informed purchasing decisions. Through the use of third party verified information, available on the EPDs (Environmental Product Declaration), the calculator has accuracy and in-depth data like no other to truly calculate the CO2 impact across the full product life cycle.

The Carbon Calculator allows customers to calculate the carbon footprint of Tarkett’s ranges in line with the estimated lifespan of the building, to receive a thorough estimation of the flooring footprint over the whole building life cycle. The results take into account the emissions for each of the product life cycle stages, material extraction, transportation, the energy consumed in the manufacturing process, the use and end-of-life stages including the recycling scenario - an industry first and a major lever to have a positive impact on carbon footprint.

The Carbon Calculator promotes post-use recycling through carbon savings comparisons with incineration and landfill scenarios. It makes it compelling for contractors to join Tarkett’s ReStart® take-back and recycling programme and endorses Tarkett’s commitment to push the boundaries of recycling flooring", says Edouard de la Cotardière, Vice President Marketing and Digital, Tarkett EMEA.

The savings comparisons are expressed in tonnes of CO2eq, but also translated to the number of round trips from Paris to London and other helpful visual equivalents, further demonstrating the value of take-back and recycling programmes such as Tarkett ReStart®.

The Carbon Calculator is the latest instalment in Tarkett’s ambition to help reduce the industry’s carbon footprint. It builds on previous Tarkett initiatives created for reducing environmental impact, including the Circular Selection and the Carbon Conscious Programme.
