STILLS: A New Perspective on Linoleum

STILLS, presented during Dutch Design Week 2026, is the latest collaboration between Tarkett and Studio RENS. The project explores linoleum beyond its conventional use as flooring, revealing material qualities that often remain hidden once installed. Through a series of wall-based compositions, Studio RENS transforms Tarkett linoleum into interior objects that highlight colour, texture, edges and construction details.

By moving the material from the floor to the wall, STILLS invites viewers to see a familiar surface in a new way.

From Research to Material Expression

STILLS builds on the material research initiated with Lino Undercover, the first collaboration between Studio RENS and Tarkett presented at Dutch Design Week in 2023. That project investigated the concealed side of linoleum, uncovering details that are typically hidden from view.

In STILLS, this exploration takes a new form. Through cutting, layering and composition, Studio RENS creates a collection of works that showcase the visual richness and versatility of linoleum while remaining faithful to the material itself.

A Shared Interest in Material Exploration

The collaboration reflects a shared approach to design and innovation: looking closely at materials, understanding their properties, and exploring new applications through experimentation.

The resulting pieces demonstrate how a well-known flooring material can be reinterpreted in a contemporary interior context.
