Helle Mardahl flagship store, Copenhagen: a vision enhanced by Tarkett flooring
Helle Mardahl, the renowned artist and designer celebrated for her vibrant glass creations, recently unveiled her flagship store in Copenhagen. This store embodies her creative vision: a welcoming and immersive environment where art and design harmoniously interact. The store features Tarkett's innovative linoleum flooring solution, Lino Loose-Lay, to complement this aesthetic and create a sustainable, functional space.
Aesthetic harmony with Lino Loose-Lay
The flagship store's interior is characterised by a soft palette of pinks and creams, chosen to enhance the lively expression of Mardahl's colourful glass art. To ground this dynamic visual language, the store incorporates Tarkett's Lino Loose-Lay Veneto design in the colour ‘Burlap’. The light matte finish of the flooring aligns seamlessly with the store's airy and inviting atmosphere, allowing the art pieces to take centre stage.
"The flooring plays an integral role in bringing the store's design vision to life," shares Mardahl. "It complements the overall aesthetic and underscores our commitment to environmentally conscious choices."
Sustainability at its core
Lino Loose-Lay is an eco-friendly flooring option with the esteemed Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification. Made from natural, renewable materials, the flooring reflects Tarkett's dedication to sustainability. Additionally, the linoleum is part of Tarkett's ReStart® recycling programme. During installation, all offcuts were collected and sent back to Tarkett's production facility in Italy, where they were recycled into new linoleum products. This circular approach reduces CO₂ emissions and minimises waste, aligning perfectly with Mardahl's desire to create a space that values beauty and responsibility.
Innovative installation
One of the standout features of Lino Loose-Lay is its adhesive-free installation method. This approach allows for quicker and more flexible flooring application while avoiding the use of glue. The flooring was expertly installed by Steca Gulve, whose team appreciated the practicality of the Loose-Lay system.
"With Lino Loose-Lay, we were able to install the flooring efficiently and without adhesives," explains John Klingert of Steca Gulve. "This saves time and ensures a healthier environment for installers and occupants alike."
The adhesive-free installation makes the flooring easy to adjust or replace, adding a layer of flexibility that is particularly valuable in high-traffic commercial spaces like retail stores.
Versatility and durability
The Lino Loose-Lay collection includes 12 colours inspired by Tarkett's classic Veneto series, featuring subtle marbling patterns. This versatile design makes it suitable for many interior styles while ensuring durability in high-traffic areas. The flooring's xf² surface treatment provides excellent resistance to wear and stains, ensuring it maintains its elegance over time.
A showcase of artistic and sustainable design
Helle Mardahl's flagship store is more than a retail space; it is a testament to the synergy between art, design, and sustainability. Tarkett's Lino Loose-Lay flooring not only supports the aesthetic vision of the space but also reinforces its commitment to eco-conscious practices. By integrating innovative, sustainable flooring, the store benchmarks how design and functionality can coalesce to create inspiring environments.
