The Concept
Noordwest Ziekenhuisgroep is a hospital organization with locations in Alkmaar, Den Helder, Heerhugowaard, Limmen, Schagen and Texel. It is a top-tier clinical hospital with the finest training and education, so that the best care and services may be provided to its patients. Tarkett has been supplying Noordwest Ziekenhuisgroep with its IQ Optima floorings for many years. So when Noordwest Ziekenhuisgroep decided to renovate the Den Helder location, it was clear that Tarkett would supply the floorings. Tarkett’s IQ Natural and Wallgard floorings were chosen for the Acute Care Unit of the hospital, as a trial floor covering for future construction and renovation in the Den Helder and Alkmaar locations.

Since the Noordwest Ziekenhuisgroep has always appreciated and respected Tarkett’s eco-friendly and circular economy ambitions, the new IQ Natural flooring, which is sustainable and recyclable, was the ideal choice for the Acute Care Unit project in Den Helder.
 

Interview with Sietske de Graaff, Project Manager – Real Estate and New Construction

Why did you choose an iQ flooring, more specifically the iQ Natural?

Leeuwenkamp Architects has successfully worked with Tarkett in the past on various hospital projects, so they know Tarkett products well. They chose this flooring because it is highly resistant, long-lasting and hygienic, especially for high-traffic areas like a hospital.
 

Were environmental factors, and sustainability in general, important?

Yes, of course. Sustainability and choosing products that are safe for the environment are becoming more and more important in the decision-making process of the Noordwest Ziekenhuisgroep. We chose a floor covering that is not only sustainable, but can also be recycled into new floors after its use-life. By making this choice, we are highlighting the importance of the sustainable and eco-conscious vision of the group.

Was leaving a low carbon footprint important and why?

Low CO2 emissions are important and Tarkett has always been committed to providing sustainable solutions. The hospital and Tarkett are both convinced that iQ Natural is one of the best choices to meet both construction requirements and environmental challenges. The sustainable features of the iQ collection in combination with its easy installation, long-lasting performance, good hygiene, outstanding maintenance properties and aesthetic make it the ideal solution for the hospital.
 

How important was the well-being of the patients and the personnel?

Very important! Their well-being is our top priority, which is why we chose Tarkett. Tarkett aims to provide sustainable solutions that contribute to safer and healthier environments and nurture human potential.
 

Have you received any feedback?

Everyone really liked the new flooring in the Acute Care Unit of the hospital in Den Helder. We were very satisfied with the work and are looking forward to working together again on the rest of the construction and renovation projects. At the moment, however, future projects are on standby.
