Yorkshire Water became a major investor at Clarence Dock, Leeds back in 2009. Since then, the 57,000 sq ft space at Livingstone House has been operating as the city’s head quaters. Due to the nature of the business, sourcing sustainable materials for the refurbishment project was the main priority for Yorkshire Water. Tarkett’s local project consultant supported Main Contractor, Richardson in specifying truly sustainable products, that also created a welcoming, fun space for employees.

Design

Modern and uplifting interior design has become increasingly popular in recent years. As more workplaces focus on promoting collaboration through inspiring design, employees get to reap the benefits through higher productivity levels. Tarkett’s Project Consultant, Sam Crossland worked closely with workplace furniture supplier, Richardsons BE throughout the refurbishment project. The vision began with the desire to create a welcoming and fun place to work, Serene and Serene Colour and DESSO Futurity were both well received by Richardsons, due to both collections circular attributes and Cradle to Cradle Silver level certifications.

The refurbishment project also required a quick turn around so the Yorkshire Water staff could return to their new space. Both Serene and Serene Colour and DESSO Futurity offered easy installation thanks to the collection’s irregular patterns. The creative heavy-duty vinyl, Acczent Excellence 80 was then laid in the canteen area and offers up to 25% reduction in the cost of maintenance and cleaning, making it the perfect, long lasting choice for this highly used space.

Sustainability

Over 5,000m2 of the existing carpet tiles were removed from Yorkshire Water’s office and recycled through our take-back recycling programme, ReStart. Our unique technique for turning old carpet tiles into new ones is made possible by our innovative method of separating the yarn from the backing, making both materials 100% recyclable. Yorkshire Water’s new Tarkett flooring successfully meets the sustainability requirements for this project, with both carpet tile collections offering Cradle to Cradle certifications, as well as being truly circular products so the products can be recycled, renewed and continue to evolve time and time again.

The people behind the project

This scheme was a pleasure to work on. Understanding the clients keen interest, partnering with a sustainable company, showing care and consideration to their needs with the ability to recycle post use flooring. Tight and regular communication with Richardson’s and Paynters Contract Flooring made this project run smoothly. The end result, a vibrant and sustainable floor for all to enjoy.
