USIS – Specialized Intensive Care Unit
2025 | Paris, France
Located in the heart of Paris’s 14th arrondissement, the Specialized Intensive Care Unit (USIS) welcomes children aged 4 to 16 suffering from behavioral and conduct disorders. This ambitious project, led by the Cerep-Phymentin Association, is part of a broader effort to reorganize the spatial and functional layout of an entire floor within a five-story healthcare center.
A project focused on care, light, and accessibility
After a study phase spanning from 2021 to 2024, construction work was carried out over a 3-month period during the winter of 2025. The intervention required asbestos removal and a complete gutting of the 4th floor, with special attention given to accessibility for persons with reduced mobility (PRM).
Architect Sophie Nicolas envisioned a new spatial layout that enhances natural light through the installation of fixed translucent windows at the heart of the unit. The program includes:
- 3 group rooms
- A large participatory kitchen
- Confidential consultation offices
- A shared office for educators, psychologists, and a social worker
With custom-designed furniture by Sépol tailored to the specific needs of the care team.
Materials suited to the demands of the hospital environment
To meet hygiene, durability, and aesthetic requirements, the following Tarkett products were selected:
- Protectwall Kaki installed at mid-height for wall protection
- Tapiflex Essential 4 STAMP Mastic, known for its resistance and ease of maintenance
