DESSO, a leading carpet brand, was acquired by Tarkett in 2015. The DESSO brand offers more than 85 years of experience in manufacturing high-end, innovative carpet solutions. Its manufacturing facilities are located in Waalwijk, the Netherlands and Dendermonde, Belgium.
At Tarkett, it is our mission to create Great Spaces, one surface at a time. The acquisition of the DESSO brand has given us an additional strength to achieve this mission.
Today, most people spend 90% of their time indoors. This makes it imperative that we create healthy interiors. As a supplier of carpets to the commercial and consumer sectors, we believe it is our responsibility to develop products that contribute to a healthier living and working space.
All DESSO® carpets are characterized by the synergy of the three pillars: Design, Functionality and Circular Economy.
Design excellence is a priority for us. We are inspired by the latest trends in areas such as fashion, architecture, art and interior design. Next to that we want to stimulate co-creation of stunning new designs either via our international Circles of Architects® platform, in our Design Center™ or by successful partnerships with leading architects and designers.
In the field of functionality, we focus on pioneering solutions that lead to healthier and happier living and working conditions. Through this process, we ask what our carpets can do to improve people’s health and wellbeing, leading to innovations such as the DESSO AirMaster® and DESSO SoundMaster®, carpets that respectively reduce the amount of fine dust in the indoor atmosphere and unwanted noise.
Circular Economy, powered by Cradle to Cradle® principles
We are passionate about creating products that have a positive impact on people’s health and wellbeing inside their homes and in the workplace and help create a shift towards a circular economy business model.
Our DESSO EcoBase® backing is a true example of this commitment. EcoBase® is 100% recyclable in our own production process and contains 75% positively defined recycled content from the drinking water industry. In 2015, the DESSO EcoBase® backing achieved Cradle to Cradle® Gold level certification and Platinum level for material health. Lloyd’s Register has assured that our EcoBase® backing is 100% recyclable and the recycled content can be considered as 100% pre-consumer recycled material. Prepared independently for Tarkett, this assurance statement provides a high level of transparency for customers.
ReStart is our take back programme to collect post-consumer carpet tiles. Upon return, carpets are processed using our Refinity recycling facility which separates the yarn and other fibers from the backing Our Cradle to Cradle® Gold certified DESSO EcoBase backing is fully recyclable in our own production facility.
The PA 6 yarn can be returned to our yarn manufacturer for the production of new yarn. Carpet tiles with bitumen backing (a backing used in most carpet tiles in Europe presently) is reused as high caloric fuel in the cement industry. All non-recyclable fractions during the process will be used as secondary fuel in the cement industry.
At Tarkett, we are committed to delivering an easy customer experience by sharing our customers’ needs, offering our expertise and being obsessed with execution. To achieve this, we believe in the power of collaboration to go further together and in taking care of our people, our customers and our planet .
The way we work is changing and with it the definition of a modern workplace. A more holistic approach to design help create inspiring, multi-purpose spaces that support the health and wellbeing of the workforce, which in turn leads to better productivity and results for an organisation.
