Carpet Tiles
Made to be Remade
DESSO carpet tiles are designed to be disassembled at the end of a life well served. With ReStart®, we welcome back DESSO carpet tiles free of charge, where yarn and EcoBase® backing are separated for recycling.
Health & Well-being
In addition to circularity and aesthetic appeal, we design our carpet tiles for material health. We assess our materials according to Cradle-to-Cradle® methodology, offering complete transparency and peace of mind.
Mix & Match
DESSO Carpet Tiles are designed to work seamlessly with other Tarkett ranges, such as Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT), Homogeneous Vinyl and Linoleum, offering a wide variety of styles, colours and materials to suit any project need.

Beauty of Circularity
For us, the beauty of circularity is about the beauty of the reused materials that go into our products, the innovative manufacturing processes we implement, and the knowledge that we’re actively cutting down on waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
Our approach to circularity focuses on three key areas:
Design
Rooted in Cradle to Cradle principles, all our design decisions start at the end – the perfect place for new, and renewed, beginnings. While designing for functionality and aesthetic appeal, we design for circularity, too – for the multiple long lives our products will live.
Materials
We are committed to using materials that contribute to human and environmental health and well-being. To limit the use of virgin raw materials, we cooperate closely with partner companies across industries, actively recovering valuable materials otherwise destined for waste.
Circular Journey
We recognise that we are responsible for the full life cycle of every material we work with. Our take-back and recycling programme, ReStart®, makes it possible to close the loop with the help of our network of partners, enabling us to reclaim and recycle materials for the next generation of flooring.
Recyclable Yarn and Backing
DESSO EcoBase®
Restless innovators, we are constantly seeking ways to evolve our products and enhance material choices. Our newest evolution of EcoBase® carpet tile backing sees bio-based1 pine rosin replace a petroleum-based resource, resulting in a 5% material change.
This subtle, yet impactful, adjustment reduces each tile’s Circular Carbon Footprint by on average 20%2, our lowest yet, and we remain focused on shrinking this further. With continuous innovation, EcoBase remains 100% recyclable and Cradle to Cradle Gold-Certified®, thanks to DESSO’s closed-loop system.
SoundMaster Backing
Less noise means more productive workforces. The layered design of the carpet tile, and especially with the SoundMaster backing, optimizes the sound absorption and sound insulation. Additionally, it offers an even more comfortable underfoot feel than standard carpet.
DESSO SoundMaster
This felt backing is made from 100% polyester (containing 80% recycled content) and offers the most advanced sound insulation and absorption properties.
DESSO SoundMaster Thrive
This is the first 100% recyclable SoundMaster backing, and when used with a Cradle to Cradle® certified carpet tile collection, the overall product maintains its certification level.
DESSO SoundMaster Lite
This SoundMaster backing offers great acoustic performance and is made from 100% polyester (containing 80% recycled content).
Econyl® Yarn
At our Waalwijk facility in the Netherlands, we developed a unique recycling centre to separate PA6 yarn from carpet tile backing with over 95% purity, ensuring it can be upcycled with minimal loss and reintegrated into new carpet tiles. In close collaboration with yarn supplier Aquafil, this process enables the production of ECONYL® — a high-quality regenerated nylon made from 100% recycled sources, including post-consumer yarn waste from our recycling centre and discarded nylon fishing nets.
These fishing nets are recovered from the ocean by Healthy Seas, a not-for-profit initiative supported by companies including Tarkett, to prevent pollution and protect marine life.
Installation & Maintenance
Installation
DESSO carpet tiles are manufactured with the greatest care, providing high-quality flooring for commercial, hospitality, and other sectors. However, our products truly come to life only when installed correctly. Following the recommended installation instructions is essential to ensure optimum results. These instructions are based on extensive laboratory testing and years of practical experience in flooring solutions.
Carpet tiles can be installed in Monolithic, Brick, Ashlar, Quarterturn, or Random patterns. Each tile type has a preferred installation method, indicated on the technical specifications and the boxes. Always follow the prescribed method for the best results.

Maintenance
The operation of the maintenance program and the use of cleaning agents determine the condition of the carpet after its useful life and the options to recycle or reuse it as part of Tarkett’s ReStart program. The amount of dirt and residue in the carpet affects the quality of materials fed into the different recycling streams. Proper maintenance also has a positive effect on the aesthetics and performance of your carpet, helping to preserve and extend its life.
We recommend a three-step maintenance program:
• Routine/Daily Maintenance
• Periodic Maintenance
• Deep Cleaning
The frequency of maintenance depends on colour, the intensity of use, area and grade of representation.
Transparency & Certifications
Making informed choices starts with clear, reliable product information. All Tarkett products carry independent certifications such as Cradle to Cradle®, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), ISO Standards, and Material Health Statements (MHS). These provide complete transparency and accountability, helping you compare products with confidence and choose solutions that align with your environmental goals.
Case Studies
1In July 2024, we introduced a new bio-based ingredient across all our EcoBase collections, which is also reflected in our product specifications. On occasion the previous EcoBase backing without the bio-based ingredient will still be supplied whilst stock is available or for specific supply conditions. In such cases, please check with your sales representative for the exact specification and sustainability credentials.
